Cheryl, the owner, ran her own successful handmade business, for 5 years - Personally Papered. She opened The Maker’s Hub in 2017 to with services unique for local makers, bakers, and artisans. Since then, it’s become a thriving community to sell, grow, and connect.

Being a woman with ADHD, she loves being her own boss and building a community. A community that values real, authentic connections. Having the freedom to be creative, make an impact, and inspire is her motivation for showing up. One of Chery's gifts is her capacity for resilience and to strive for betterment. She’s passionate about sharing her knowledge and experience, in a space she can be herself.

Outstanding service, customer retention, and beautiful displays are everything to Cheryl! Her portfolio includes years of retail, social media management, and visual merchandising. When it comes to pop-up markets, she’s participated, curated, and hosted them since 2014.

Our team at The Hub is all makers. We’re all women. And all passionate members of the handmade community.

The decision to send an invite to retail or pop-up with us is done using our brand standards. They’re mentioned in the form below. Select your option (i.e. 'In-store' or 'Pop-Up') and the correct form will appear below. Feel free to switch back and forth if you want to check out more than one application.

We’ll be in touch with all applicants whether you’re invited or not. If we don’t extend an invite, we’ll share with you why not. This is not to be unkind. In fact, it’s the opposite. We’ve all been vendors too. Being ghosted or told we’re on a nonexistent wait list is disappointing and crappy. Our goal in everything we do is to show you respect and support you in your growth. This is true even in our declines.

There are other ways to collaborate with us that don’t need an application approval. For example, using our pickup service for your customers, renting our space to host a workshop. Monthly fees start as low as $40/month, average at $110/month, up to $240+/month for our largest displays. Below the application form you’ll find our full fee breakdown and what’s included. As well as examples of some of our displays and pricing.

Retail displays are offered based on availability and suitability. In our offers, we share a picture + dimensions of the display(s). As well as our vendor agreement for your review. Giving you all the details to consider before committing. No surprises.

New terms start at 3 months.

Shorter 3-month terms nurture our shoppers’ interests to discover something new each visit. Plus, they give you an opportunity to try our model on a short-term commitment. Longer terms and term extensions look at several things. Some of these include, our relationship, sales, market trends, proof of demand, seasonal turnover, restocking ability, social media presence.

Our dedicated team handles all customer service and fulfillment. This includes in store and online sales, communication, customer service, picking, packing, shipping (Canada wide), and in-store pickups. Giving you a larger marketplace and more customers, without giving you more work. That’s extra time on your side.

Cheryl loves to merchandise, and pick displays that compliment our boutique esthetic. So worrying if your display looks tidy, no security deposits, and no buying or building a display. Saving you time, money, and stress.

If you’re interested storage and restocking services, we offer that too. Pricing starts as low as $20/month. Again, finding ways to save you time and maximize your sales!!

Social media is a big part of how we advertise and increase your brand awareness. As a vendor with us, we expect you to take part. In fact, it's right in our agreement.

If you collect hst, we charge at checkout. A detailed monthly report with the breakdown supplied. This makes it super easy for you come tax season.

We pay out on time, monthly, by direct deposit.

Insurance

Not all vendors need to have insurance, but some do.

Food vendors are required to make and package their products in a Dinesafe approved kitchen (or equivalent heath inspected approval for the area), hold a current Food Handlers permit and business insurance. This includes human and pet food vendors.

Bath & Body vendors are required to have business insurance and industry-compliant labeling in English.

Teething product vendors are required to have 2 million liability insurance and use food-grade silicone and products.

FAILURE TO SUPPLY THESE DOCS, WILL RESULT IN NOT BEING ABLE TO RETAIL WITH US AND NO REFUNDS WILL BE ISSUED FOR MONIES PAID.

The lowdown. If you like connecting, collaborating, and in person selling, then you'll want to read on.

This is season will be our 8th year hosting pop-ups. They run with experience, values, a great brand reputation, and are well organized. We only accept small handmade businesses.

Our audience appreciates handmade and finds great joy in discovery and connection. They have a deep respect for makers and artisan’s talents (and pricing).

Each event is well marketed and promoted on social media, our newsletter, in store, and flyers. Our vendors report amazing growth and brand exposure leading up to their event.

Our pop-ups take place in front of our handmade boutique in Whitby, May – Oct, on the second Saturday of the month. It's a very busy street, close to popular shopping (SoftMoc Warehouse) and dining destinations (including a micro-brewery and deli!). The location is super easy to find, minutes from the 401 and Thickson Rd.

They include a professional photographer, Heather from Journey Creative, capturing the moments. You'll receive two professional photos following the event. You’ll love using them for your social media and website!

You’ll receive support and inspiration as we lead up in our FB vendor’s group. We’ve designed this group for learning, networking, and info sharing. And of course, asking questions before your event date.

The set up and tear down is the easiest around. You can unload less than 100ft from where you’re setting up.

Our pop-up markets are free to attendees. As well as wheelchair, stroller, and pet friendly.

In our invite we’ll offer you a date. We aim for your preferred date. If that date doesn't work, we’ll look for a date that does. For this reason, please include all the dates you’re available below.

Rain dates, Cancellations, and Refunds

Rain dates - If a market date is cancelled due to weather, we’ll move it to the next day (Sunday). Unless it's Mother's Day, in which case it will move to the following Saturday, May 18. It's your responsibility to keep your rain date open. If you're not available on your rain date, there'll be no further rain dates or refunds offered.

If the weather is still not suitable on Sunday, we’ll do our best to find you another date that works for you. If an alternate date cannot then be secured, a refund of 50% will be issued.

If we need to cancel your event due to weather, we'll decide no later than noon on Friday. We'll post in the vendor group, send an email, and share on our social media.

Refunds - Fees are not fully refundable. Spots are transferable. Here’s how it works.

The effort to find a replacement vendor is up to you, not The Maker’s Hub.

The replacement vendor is required to fill out the application form and be accepted. Once they’ve paid, either a new date (if available), or a 50% refund will be issued.

Transfers must be confirmed 14 days or more before the pop-up date.

Illness with a doctor's note - If you’re ill and cannot attend, a 50% refund will be provided with a doctor's note. The doctor’s note must be dated 48 business hours before or after your event date.

Cancelling - If you're not able to attend we ask you to give us the curtesy of as much notice as possible so we can adjust the map and marketing. We understand this isn't always possible, but when it is, please do.

We’re excited to offer space in store for vendors to pop-up this holiday season. This is the busiest, most magical retail season of the year. Our store traffic is non stop with happy handmade shoppers. Without a doubt, it’s a fabulous time to pop up.

You’ll want to apply if you like connecting, collaborating, and in person selling.

Our application is open to makers, bakers, and artisans.

Space is limited. Only one date per vendor to start.

We’ll be in touch with all applicants.

Our invite will include a date based on your availability. For this reason, please select all dates you’re available.

Our social media expectations. We expect vendors to take part in social media activities and promotion. This includes posting, sharing, and commenting.

These are short retail terms. Designed with quick, easy access into retail. No long-term commitments, or admin set up.

We’ve made it easy to remember the terms – 30/30/30.

That's $30 dollars, 30 days, 30 units.

Units are the total number of inventories you can have in stock at any given time. If you have large products this is subject to change based on display and storage space.

As your products sell, you can drop off restocks during your term to bring them back up to 30.

This is a call list. It's active for a year from the date you filled it out. You are welcome to decline a call. In which case you’re moved to the bottom of the list.

Our brand standards apply (detailed below).

We invite based on space, category, speed of acceptance, and the ability to drop off fast. Remembering it’s a flash pop-up, so timing matters.

There’s no admin work to get set up. You only need to tag your products with your assigned vendor # and price.

You won’t receive a set display, but instead your products are merchandised within the store by our team.

We’re located in Whitby. Our store is minutes from the 401 and Thickson Rd., on a busy street, close to popular shopping and dining destinations. With ample free parking.
